Motocross Coaching Video - Braking Skills
Braking is one of the essentials to being able to ride your Motocross bike with some form of control. As you may know or may have seen from watching other riders, a lot of riders can hold the throttle wide open down a straight but a much lesser percentage can actually wash off enough speed to make it through the corner with some consistency, control and flow. When it comes to coaching a rider on how to brake better it is best to bake things down and work on specific skills. This will allow you to learn at a lower speed ans therefor speed up your learning process.

ONE: The first part of this braking exercise is the stop go. The idea here is get get a feel for how hard you can and need to pull the front brake in to bring the bike to a stop quickly. This also teaches you to read the dirt for how much traction you have.

TWO: Ride along in 1st gear at a slow speed sitting toward the front of your seat. Once your comfortable pull the clutch in and start to squeeze the front brake until you come to a stop. Keep repeating this for a while as it will increase your brake feel more and more as you repeat it.

THREE: Now if your ready to move on to the next step start to squeeze the brake a little harder and a little more aggressively and this will lead you to the second part of this braking exercise. As you start to be more aggressive with your front brake the rear wheel will start to lift off of the ground and you will do an endo.

FOUR: The more confident you get with this the higher you will be able to get that rear wheel in the air. If your rear wheel comes up too quickly or too high simply release the front brake and it will drop back to the ground. This Motocross skills training exercise is the start of you being able to wash off speed efficiently and will eventually lead to you cutting seconds off your lap times or simply being a much smoother safer rider.
