The WRD (Ward Racing Developments) MX team announced its arrival on the Queensland motocross scene with an impressive performance at the opening round of the Shell Advance Sunshine State Motocross Series over the weekend.

Featuring 14 years old Nathan Crawford in the junior ranks and Wade Hunter in the Pro Lites, both Yamaha mounted riders, ended up on the podium and posting strong results.

Nathan Crawford got the ball rolling for the team taking home the victory in the 13 to 14 years Lites class with 1-1-3 results. Crawford jumped well from the gate in the opening two motos to take the win and then rode a smart final leg to lock down the round win.

He backed that up with a fourth place finish in the 13 to 15 years 125 class. It was a tight three way battle for the minor positions, with Crawford landing in fourth but well satisfied with his ride.

Senior rider Wade Hunter took 2-2 moto scores to take second overall in the Pro Lites class. Hunter led both motos in the early stages only to be passed by Jacob Wright around the half way point.

It was a pleasing result for Hunter who had an injury plagued 2011 season and is looking to bounce back to top form in 2012.

"I couldn't be happier with how the weekend turned out," said team owner Mike Ward. "Both riders and our team sponsors put in a huge effort to be ready for this weekend and the results from the guys is a nice reward."

"Both guys leave here knowing there is still some work to do, but it was a great confidence builder for both of them," Ward finishes.
